Light a lamp for peace
As tensions remain high between the United States and Iran, participants in a MCC-led delegation to Iran in February are urging congregations to light oil lamps as a reminder to pray for peace and for the people of Iran. The delegation, co-sponsored by MCC and American Friends Service Committee, met with the Iranian president, a former president and other political and religious leaders in Iran in February. At the end of each meeting, the U.S. group presented Iranian leaders with ceramic oil lamps, made by Indiana potter Dick Lehman, as well as quilted wall hangings. Ron Flaming, MCC's director of international programs, said delegation members told leaders that the Bible calls on Christians to remember the leaders of the world with prayer and that the lamps signified a promise to remember Iran and its leaders.
New York Preview: 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee revealed
The Chrysler Group is kicking off its presence at the 2007 New York Auto Show by unveiling the new 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee a little early. The new GC features a revised exterior that's difficult to detect at first glance. We'll hit the high points for you. First off, the front end features a grille that dips down a bit lower, and the bottom of the headlights have been rounded off to enhance their Jeepishness. One can also order a set of HID auto-leveling headlamps. The fog lamps have also been lowered to improve their effectiveness. Hardcore off-roaders will be pleased to know, however, that the new fascia is compised of two-pieces, the lower of which can be removed when trail-rating your new Grand Cherokee. The taillights out back are also revised. Underhood the new GC now features no less than five engine options, one of which is an all-new 4.7L V8 that slots in below the 5.7L HEMI V8.
Puzzling compulsion that keeps E-burg couple busy
When there's not much worth watching on television, Bob and Laura Kappes move their old card table next to their favorite chairs, plug in the old brass desk lamp and work on jigsaw puzzles. "We don't watch much television except for 'Alice,' 'Cheers' and 'Mama's Family.' Everything is murder and rape, nothing too enjoyable to watch," 79-year-old Laura said. Until three years ago when Laura had her hip replacement surgery, she spent her evenings quilting. But in the hospital, someone gave her a jigsaw puzzle to work on and she's been hooked ever since. continued below .
