Hella Supplies Exterior, Interior Lighting for BMW 5 Series

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich., April 11 -- Hella, a global supplier of automotive lighting and electronic equipment, is providing exterior and interior lighting for the 2007-model BMW 5 Series.

Hella, working in collaboration with BMW engineers, has developed the 5 Series' front headlights and combination rear taillights. Hella also supplies the car's headlight power-washing system, interior lighting and reading lamps.

Featuring a clear-glass look, the Hella supplied twin-round headlamps offer a striking, jeweled appearance to the 5 Series. The car's base model is equipped with H7 halogen bulbs for low- and high-beam lighting, as well as four light-guide rings.

The 5 Series also can be outfitted with Hella's Bi-Xenon headlamps that generate low-beam and high-beam lighting from the same module.

NZ's environment goes the 'Wright' way

"I was at a wedding three weeks ago," says Jan Wright, "and afterwards somebody made the comment that they didn't know I was such a party animal."

The new Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment recounts her wild ways from an office bereft of personality. She wears a sage green suit and sensible gold stud earrings. She places a coaster under her water glass.

Is she prone to dancing on the tables? There is a pause.

"On the floor."

There is only so much booty shaking an uber bureaucrat can get away with. Wright's curriculum vitae is an ode to sensible decision making. She has an honours degree from Canterbury, a masters from Berkeley, and a PhD in public policy from Harvard.

She has consulted for more than 25 government agencies and sat on the boards of Transit New Zealand, Transfund and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority.

Bus And Train To Chilli Peppers And V8 Race

PlaceMakers V8 Supercars and Red Hot Chilli Peppers fans will be able to leave their cars locked in the garage this weekend, as special transport services put on by the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) will have them arriving right at the door for each event.

ARTA’s General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, “A special return train and bus connection fare is being offered to V8 patrons travelling to and from Pukekohe Park Raceway from Friday 20 April to Sunday 22 April.

“For passengers travelling from most stations on our rail network, the best fare is a $10 special event ticket which covers the train journey and includes a free connecting shuttle bus between Pukekohe Station and the raceway. A very convenient and cost effective way of getting to the venue”, says Mr Lambert.

Some states say no to teen tanning

WASHINGTON — No smoking. No drinking. No talking on cell phones while driving. Now, the latest no-no in state laws aimed at underage teens is indoor tanning.

Spurred by worries about skin cancer, Utah and Virginia this year joined 25 other states, including Mississippi, in placing limits on teens seeking a bronze glow from the ultraviolet lights of a tanning bed. North Dakota's Legislature is putting the final touches on a measure to also clamp restrictions on tanning salon patrons under age 18.

Most of the laws require underage teens to get parental permission to lie under the tanning-bed heat lamps that emit intense UV light. A handful of states completely ban access to artificial UV light in salons for those younger than 13, 14 or 16. Others require teens to bring along a parent or a doctor's prescription.
