After lamps, Ombudsman probes P90-M traffic equipment
Overpriced street lamps may not be the only controversial expenses in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in Cebu last January. After finding basis to charge 19 officials for the lamppost mess, the Ombudsman is setting its sights on alleged anomalies in traffic surveillance equipment. Sun-Star Cebu (www.sunstar.com.ph) reported Sunday that the Ombudsman is now looking into alleged anomalies in the procurement of some P90 million worth of traffic surveillance equipment, the installation of lamps in a private beach resort and the expenses incurred by the Lapu-Lapu city government. It is also looking into possible anomalies in the P155 million used in asphalting 15 short Cebu City road segments. Earlier, the Ombudsman asked for the immediate preventive suspension of all the public officials involved in the lamps mess.
Carousel in Concert, Lamplighters Tour Bay Area

"Set in a small New England seaside town, CAROUSEL follows the love story of Billy Bigelow, a smooth-talking carnival barker, and Julie Jordan, a spunky local factory worker he seduces," states press notes, "Desperate for money after learning that he and Julie will be parents, Billy attempts a foolish robbery.
Modern Attitudes
No one could believe the turnout at the Antique Appraisal Fair in Newby Gym on Saturday. Despite an icy cold sleet and snow mixture, people came out in droves, bringing family heirlooms from their basements, closets and china cabinets. Antiques tell a lot about your ancestors - were they extravagant, elegant or practical? Did they have a sense of humor, were they unconventional, or did they stick to the popular styles of the day? Some people had wild-looking lamps on Saturday like Susan Haynes, who said she brought her bedangled light fixture up from her basement to see when it was made, and if it had value. She said family members had given it to her because they didn't know what to do with it. Neither did she, but she was willing to find out.
