Energy-saving lamps light up railway tracks

A total of 20,000 LED (light-emitting diode) street lamps will be installed along the railway track between Shanghai and its neighboring city Suzhou, a move which will cut the energy consumption in half.

The first batch of 100 lamps has passed trial tests conducted by the No.24 China Railway Group Co Ltd whichplans to upgrade the number of lamps on the railway track from 15,000 to 20,000. The new lamps have a longer life and perform perfectly in energy-saving.

A conservation report says if all the bulbs and fluorescent lamps were replaced by LED lamps in Shanghai, it might save the city power equal to the yearly energy output of the Three Gorges project.

The Shanghai branch of the No.24 China Railway Group Co Ltd has signed a cooperation agreement with the Taiwan-based Formosa Epitaxy Co and Hong Kong-based Wai Chi Electronics Ltd to supply the energy-saving project.

Corpses Get Second Life at 'Bodies' Exhibit

Washington, D.C. - infoZine - One is a skeleton with a broken right arm, his bone lumped and twisted from improper healing. The other is stripped to his muscles, his face stretched into what looks like a grimace. At first glance, the display is hardly the most shocking in the traveling exhibit of real human bodies preserved with liquid silicone rubber. A man sliced thinly into 92 pieces, fetuses in jars and preserved male genitalia comprise other displays in the exhibition. But then visitors see the plaque accompanying the sinewy couple. The bones and muscles belonged to the same man. "He's holding hands with himself," said Roy Glover, a retired University of Michigan anatomy professor who serves as the exhibition's chief medical adviser. "Bodies... the Exhibition" opens Saturday and runs at least through October at the Dome in Rosslyn, Va., the former location of the Newseum.

Former coach and family leave items behind for auction

Maybe we should hold that question until after the first few games of the football season. But if you're having trouble filling the void the Jaw left in your soul, take heart: He's left something for you to remember him by.

In fact, he's left 134 lots of things, ranging from his pool table to his king-sized bed to his Steelers ice bucket. All will be auctioned beginning around noon April 28 at Dargate Auction Galleries in Point Breeze.

All of the items come from the 5,000-square-foot house in Fox Chapel that the former Steelers head coach shared with his wife, Kaye, and their three daughters. It's typical household stuff -- lamps, rugs, sofas, chairs, china, artwork -- the kind of things a family wouldn't bother to take if they were moving to, say, a $2.5 million, 7,400-square-foot house in Raleigh, N.C.
