Bentley: I'll put Lamps in the shade
DAVID Bentley is ready to prove he's worthy of an England call-up by putting Frank Lampard and his Chelsea team-mates in the shade at Old Trafford tomorrow. The former Arsenal star, who has been in outstanding form for Blackburn this season, has regularly been touted for a senior international call-up by his manager Mark Hughes. So far, England boss Steve McClaren has decided to ignore Bentley's claims, despite the midfielder earning rave reviews for some dazzling performances for Blackburn and England's Under 21s. However, the 22-year-old knows the clamour for his inclusion in the senior squad will become overwhelming if he can out-shine Lampard and Co as Rovers attempt to reach the FA Cup final for the first time since 1960. Bentley, who is likely to be up against England defender Ashley Cole tomorrow, said: "Playing at Old Trafford in a semi-final is a great chance for me to show what I can do.

It's shaping up to be a death sentence for the Capitals, who've allowed eight power-play goals in their last six tilts.
Editorials: Not like the lampposts controversy
THAT those who were noisy about the decorative lamps issue are now training their guns on the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) is not surprising. The CICC is the most controversial project undertaken by the administration of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and critics hounded it throughout its construction last year. Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 When the issue was not about the appropriateness of the spending, it was about whether it would be built on time or even about the leak in a portion of its roof. Surprising It is thus surprising that after the facility was used as venue of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in January, the CICC was spared from scrutiny until recently. With the number of critics and this being an election season, Capitol officials probably expected questions on the CICC construction to be raised earlier.
