Farewell to dinosaurs of dynasties

Even political pundits are failing to predict the fate of Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina, who entered politics by climbing the ladder of so-called democracy, which very unfortunately, went inside the grips of a notorious political practice. It is already known that Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina is facing a very recent murder charge along with dozens of corruption cases of firm evidences. On the other hand, Khaleda Zia, along with her two sons, are possibly amongst champion corrupts in South Asia. Both the Begums in Bangladesh considered the country as their ancestral property and got into virtual looting of public money through careless corruptions. Although, Sheikh Hasina is issuing statements of coming back to Bangladesh to face ‘any kind of trial', it is well apprehended that, finally she might not opt of facing trial courts, where her misdeed would become a kind of sin not only for her own political career, but for the very existence of one of Bangladesh's most historic political party.

Replace all energy consuming bulbs

The Energy Commission has recommended the replacement of six million incandescent lamps with contact fluorescent lamps throughout the country as a measure to conserve energy and help save the nation from the current energy crisis.

The replacement which is based on the commissions statistics is expected to reduce demand and consumption of electricity by between 200 megawatts and 240 megawatts during the peak hours (between 6 pm and 11 pm).

The acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Alfred Ofosu Ahenkora said the commission presented the recommendation to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in October last year.

Following the recommendation, he said the ministry placed orders for one million compact lamps which had just began to arrive, added that the replacement exercise would begin with military installations after which it would be extended to other parts of the country.

Illuminating ideas

If you've caught yourself squinting at your book or magazine lately, you are far from alone.

As eyes age, they begin to have more trouble focusing, but some simple adjustments to your home lighting could make life much easier on your eyes.

"Basically, the more light your eyes are exposed to, the size of pupil gets smaller. When your pupil size get smaller, you increase your depth of focus," said Dr. Aaron Scavezze, optometrist at Eastland Eye Care Associates. "When you get into your 40s you start to lose the ability to focus closely."

Depending on the room, several options are available to boost the light in your home.

The obvious choice would be natural light. It's brighter than florescent light and is free.

"Natural light is better for your eyes.
