WRIGHTSVILLE - In a few years, Wrightsville has done what many communities only talk about, reversing a declining downtown into one on a steady upswing with more improvements coming. The changes have come about through private donations, local tax dollars, federal grants, a swelling of civic pride and an influx of young entrepreneurs investing in downtown. In the early 1990s, the fading Johnson County courthouse in the middle of town fit right in with dilapidated commercial buildings and crumbling sidewalks. The courthouse was in such bad shape that the Johnson County commissioners were considering abandoning it, turning it over to civic clubs and building a new courthouse outside of downtown. But that plan generated such an outcry that the commissioners changed course and opted instead for a $1 million renovation that was completed in 1996.
New lawn mowers easier on older generation
We Americans have a love affair with our lawns. Our desire to have at least some portion of our yards devoted to that lush green carpet of grass apparently still justifies the sacrifices we are willing to take to make it so. For starters, lawns require a great deal of water, chemicals and, especially, time to keep them looking their best. And the physical act of mowing commands much of that. Yet in spite of technological, time-saving improvements, a small group of ambitious souls still choose to cut their lawns using an updated version of the old motor-less, push reel mower. In fact, they are even making a comeback in some market segments. Although certainly not time-saving, they are a great way to combine the benefit of physical exercise while minimizing the environmental impact of noise and air pollution for which gas powered mowers are known.

Birds. I can't stop the bird-flavored items from invading my home. Everywhere I look I see birds. Our kids can already count so this is probably the only thing keeping the 123 Counting Poster out of our home. Because of course it matches our couch-cover, and posters, and lamps, and Jess' purse. I will admit this is attractive, and its a clean and colorful design will help your kids master their early numbers. Jess says she wants to hold all the little birds in her hands.
