KUWAIT CITY: The Amghara scrapyard sells everything from car spare parts to military vehicles and APCs belonging to the coalition troops in addition to logistics vehicles, reports Al-Qabas daily. The salesmen working in these areas are either violators of law or those who are staying in the country illegally and the business in this area is said to be brisk without police control. The salesmen say they buy vehicles from anyone who wishes to sell them even if the seller refuses to produce his ID. Among the merchandise bought by these persons which finally finds its way to the smelter are lamp posts, manhole covers and copper wires stolen from government sites.

Get extinguisher by May 1: Beginning from next month the General Department for Organizing Traffic plans to make it mandatory for all motorists to install fire extinguishers, reports Al-Watan daily.


Purse snatcher gets five years' probation

One of the two Campbellsville women accused of a string of multi-county purse snatchings has been sentenced to five years' probation.

Allene Sherrard, 49, of 404 Bell Ave. appeared before Taylor Circuit Court Judge Allan Bertram on Tuesday, April 10 for sentencing.

In January, Sherrard and her daughter, Ramie Sue Cole, now Ramie Sue Sprowles, 32, also of 404 Bell Ave. in Campbellsville, pleaded guilty to two counts of tampering with physical evidence and two counts of theft by unlawful taking more than $300.

According to court records, the women were accused of taking purses from customers at Kroger on Broadway, Big Lots and Wal-Mart Supercenter. They also allegedly snatched purses from customers at Wal-Mart, Kroger and Higdon's Foodtown in Lebanon and IGA in Greensburg.
