Details bring trains to life

A handful of youth sit around a campfire, one tucked in a sleeping bag with his head perched on an arm, as though listening intently to a ghost story.

Lovers celebrate a passionate yet tender reunion with a kiss beneath a lamp post on a hill overlooking the train tracks.

Environmental Excellence awards to be presented Friday

The seventh annual Springfield/Greene County Choose Environmental Excellence awards will be presented during a noon luncheon on Friday at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce as a part of Springfields Earth Day festivities.

Amy Bhesania of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will make a special presentation to City Utilities and the City of Springfield for their efforts through two projects to protect the regions air quality by participating in the Blue Skyways Program.

The Noble Hill Landfill Renewable Energy Center, completed in May 2006, uses methane gas recovered from the landfill to produce enough electricity to power 2,600 homes. The $6.7 million facility also reduces the annual emission of 40 tons of nitrogen oxide, 50 tons of sulfur oxide and 22,798 tons of carbon dioxide into the air.

New EL Driver From Supertex Reduces Circuit Complexity

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/12/07 -- Supertex (NASDAQ: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the HV853, a new high voltage, low noise, inductorless, electroluminescent (EL) lamp driver IC. It requires no external components when the external clock frequency is used for the lamp frequency. The IC is targeted for applications that utilize small EL lamps in a tight space constraint, such as in cellular phones, luminescent watches and MP3 players.

The HV853 utilizes a patented charge pump scheme to eliminate the need for an external inductor, a diode, and a high voltage capacitor commonly found in conventional EL lamp driving topologies. The IC drives EL lamps of up to 1.5 square inches with capacitive values up to 5.3nF.

Lost in the Groupware Forest? Light a LAMP

Ever since the dawn of computing, us poor oppressed users have been asking for just one thing. It seems such a small thing: a shared calendar and contacts manager. Oh I know, a plain text file set to mode 0666 was good enough for grandma, but these days it's OK to want more. Just a simple way for us to easily share calendars and addresses with our simple, humble friends and co-workers.

But what did we get? We did not get our simple shared calendar and contacts, oh no. We were punished for our effrontery for even asking with awful punishments like Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, and Novell GroupWise, which were larded with so many Features and Productivity Thingies they couldn't get out of their own way. But we were not silenced, and continued to politely clamor for what we really really wanted.
